Background
Organised by the Madras School of Economics (MSE, Chennai, India), the Australian Government and GOAP as part of the AIIPOIP Building an Australia-India Community of Practice on Ocean Accounting project, this dialogue explored how ocean accounts can improve Beyond GDP measurement and management of progress towards sustainable ocean development. The event drew upon, and encouraged collaboration with, existing regional architectures for ocean governance, and shared challenges, best practices and lessons learned from ocean accounting efforts across the Indo-Pacific region.
The Building an Australia-India Community of Practice on Ocean Accounting project aims to advance the goals of India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), particularly the marine ecology pillar that is co-led by Australia. The AIIPOIP is a practical initiative under the Australia-India Joint Declaration on a Shared Vision for Maritime Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, as part of the Australia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
