The inaugural Africa Dialogue on Ocean Accounting aimed to introduce stakeholders in the region to ocean accounting and why it is important; the Ocean Accounts Framework and related frameworks, initiatives and ocean governance tools; and ocean accounts pilot projects from the region and around the world. The Dialogue was followed by a two-hour round-table to discuss the Dialogue’s presentations and develop a position paper identifying the needs, challenges and opportunities for ocean accounting in African coastal countries. The position paper ensured these needs, challenges and opportunities were addressed in the Third Global Dialogue on Ocean Accounting (30 March 2022).
